Giving a voice to local business
The BACC Government Affairs Council meets monthly to review important legislation, plan legislative events, and give a voice to business in the communities we serve and in the State. As an organization of over 800 members, BACC can accomplish collectively what no one entity can do alone. The Council’s primary function is to serve as an agent of change, providing leadership for the benefit of the business community.
The Government Affairs Council identifies and monitors proposed legislation, develops resolutions and/or position papers on issues of importance, educates lawmakers and encourages Chamber members to contact legislators and other appropriate officials to promote pro-business positions, free enterprise, job creation and regional prosperity. The Council encourages face-to-face meetings with leaders and works to organize legislative and candidate meet-and-greets and potential visits to Springfield and Washington.
In addition to its ongoing legislative work, the Government Affairs Council hosts the annual Barrington Area Town Hall Forum, creating a public forum for the community that brings together residents and representatives from local taxing bodies. The Town Hall Forum provides timely updates on services, initiatives, and priorities from area agencies, while offering attendees the opportunity to stay informed about the decisions shaping our community. This public forum is designed to foster transparency, connection, and informed dialogue.
The Government Affairs Council is dedicated to fostering working relationships with legislators, administrators and their staffs. The Council hosts important legislative events such as the annual Economic Summit and Legislative Breakfast and other events to connect with local leaders.
