Barrington 220 Innovation Showcase
Starting at 7:00 p.m., at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St. Barrington, at least one group of Barrington High School entrepreneurs from the school’s Business Incubator class will have their dreams become reality during the annual Pitch Night in the BHS Auditorium on Tuesday, May 23. This event will feature a handful of student groups representing the most promising companies developed this school year. The teams will pitch their ideas in a format very similar to the ABC show ‘Shark Tank’ before the Incubator advisory board and a panel of investors. At least one group will receive full funding to start their company. Student groups have earned as much as $25,000 in previous years.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class
Caring for someone with a chronic illness such as dementia, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease or stroke is stressful. This six-part course, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, can assist you to better balance your own life with the needs of your older relative or friend. Family members and friends who care for someone at home or in a care facility are welcome to participate. Classes consist of six-2½ hour sessions held weekly and co-led by trained professionals. The cost for the series is $35. No one is turned away due to inability to pay. Barrington Children’s Choir Spring Auditions
Auditions for 2017/18 Barrington Children’s Choir Season is May 25th, 30th & 31st for students entering grades 2 through 12. Click here for their “Audition” page! Barrington Children’s Choir are 130 singers singing in 4 choirs living in 23 communities attending 34 area schools in grades 2-12 of all faiths and interests. They love to sing amazing music exceptionally well under the expert guidance of their 3 choral directors.
Village of Barrington Memorial Day Weekend Festivities
FREE and open to the public, the Barrington Art Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 27 & 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cook & Station Streets in the Village Center. This year’s festival features a full slate of 120 artists in all media and at all price points. Also featured are local food and beverages, plenty of shopping & dining at local boutiques and restaurants, kids’ activities (including a “Draw for the Troops” booth), a Tesla Gullwing vehicle exhibit, and much more. In addition, the event supports the American Cancer Society, with participating artists who display a green ribbon donating 10% of their proceeds to the charity.
On Saturday evening, May 27, at 5:00 p.m., the renowned North Shore Concert Band will perform following the Art Festival in the Barrington Bank & Trust Parking Lot at Cook & Lake Streets in downtown Barrington. Widely known as “America’s premier community band,” The North Shore Concert Band performs traditional and patriotic community band favorites.
On Monday, May 29, the annual Memorial Day Parade will step off at 10:30 a.m. at Park Avenue and Cook Street and will process down Main Street to Dundee, then up flag-lined Monument Avenue to Evergreen Cemetery. A solemn ceremony will be held at Evergreen Cemetery to honor our nation’s veterans. New this year: Attendees will be given roses to place on all veterans’ graves at Evergreen Cemetery.

By giving locally we can have a major impact on the causes we care about most while building a stronger, healthier, more vibrant Illinois! With your support HOS is able to provide counseling, case management, budgeting, financial planning, resume building, and other resources to help our clients become independent and ultimately end the cycle of poverty. The Journey of Dementia and You

Williams Street Repertory Now Accepting Submissions for 2017/18 New Play Reading Series
Williams Street Repertory, a professional theatre company located in Crystal Lake, is excited to announce they are now accepting submissions for their 2017-2018 LAB new play reading series. WSRep’s LAB Series is dedicated to showcasing new scripts and fostering new talent as well as giving the audience an artist’s perspective of the play-on-the-page. The goal of the series is to offer a public forum (free of charge), bringing audiences and theatre artists together to share and discuss a wide range of exciting work. Portraits of American Veterans on Display at Elgin Academy
Portraits of American Veterans by Algonquin artist Jeanine Hill-Soldner will run throughout the summer at Elgin Academy.
